What is a PosEmp?
At the heart of StarGarden's structure is an entity we call the PosEmp - in your
organization
this might be called a job, an assignment, a position or appointment - or your
organization
might have it's own terminology. The StarGarden system has been developed around
the PosEmp concept and it's important that it is understood to appreciate the power
that it provides to our users.
A PosEmp is an 'Employee in a Position'. Some
organization
s might generally have a 1 to 1 relationship between employees and positions with
a few exceptions. But you could have several employees in a job -StarGarden creates
one PosEmp for each employee in that position. Or, you could have an employee in
several positions - StarGarden maintains one PosEmp for each position the employee
is in.
You can define rules that link the PosEmp to Benefit/Deduction Plan, Pay Plan, Schedule
Plan, Seniority Plan, Vacation Plan and other plans by way of rules. For example,
a rule might be that the PosEmp is entitled to an increment after 50 hours.
Rules are most often defined at a higher level such as the union, position class,
work location, employee's status, employee FTE etc. and defaulted down to the PosEmp
but defaults can be over-ridden at will. This defaulting is quite powerful and very
automatic.
The PosEmp allows our customers to have an employee in many jobs, in mulitple payrolls,
in multiple unions, even in multiple countries without having to do manual calculations
or use dummy employee numbers. Now that's flexibility!
